By blocking these receptors, the ion canals stay closed off to sodium ion (Na+) uptake into the post-synaptic membrane and signal contractions of the muscle.
The synthetic chemical was originally developed by a Swiss pharmaceutical company. It went on the win the 2006 Swiss Technological Award and has since been distributed to numerous cosmetic companies. Across the board, these companies introduce the serum into their creams in a private blend that incorporate other possibly beneficial ingredients.
The serum was originally developed as a topical alternative to Botox. While Botox has proven to be extremely effective, the required injections are costly, invasive and require the expertise of a physician.
