8 Things to Keep in Mind When Considering Pilates Accessories

Even if you only do mat Pilates, you will still need a mat. That’s because it protects your spine. So, it is probably safe to say that you must have accessories to do Pilates. I’m not talking about the new-fangled kind of “Pilates” inventions, but the classic pieces of the puzzle that can really aid you in you routine.

If you have had the good fortune to work on Pilates apparatus, you probably are familiar with the loop. It is the at the end of the rope and you put your feet into it. There has been an innovation in the loop. It is called the double loop and it can really save time in helping you adjust rope length.

Handles are another part of the whole process when working on Pilates machines. Here’s the thing they come in many combination of materials so the only way to really find out which is best is to experiment over time. I’m sure you’ll find your favorite.

Poles. Poles are another interesting item that can ad to your over all performance withing different pilates exercises. Maybe you have heard or come across a Gondola pole for use on standing exercises when using the reformer.

Other poles can also be used for various needs or specific routines. If you’re just starting out though, don’t worry you do not need to concern yourself with Pilates poles for awhile.

You may soon be exposed to Pilates cushions. They will enable you to get into position that otherwise you may find difficult, impossible, or just downright uncomfortable to get into.

Something as simple as a Pilates mat needs to have some thought given to it. For instance did you know that a simply busy pattern on your mat may adversely affect you doing your routine? Also, you have to be aware of the portability and size so that the mat will be something that you can use without hassle. Thickness of the mat is another consideration that must be weighed. You want the right amount of protection, yet you don’t want to find yourself sinking into the mat and making be a negative thing.

And now you have an idea about some of the many accessories that enhance your pilates experience. Now all you have to do is decide on price, durability, color, materials, availability, etc. Just keep the most important thing in mind and that is look to Pilates for decades of bodywork.
